Family literacy in preschoolers’ linguistic and metalinguistic skill development

ABSTRACT Purpose: to verify family literacy practices with preschoolers from a public school in municipality of the Northeast Region Brazil. Methods: 21 parents/guardians pre-kindergarten and kindergarten students participated this study. A questionnaire 18 items on parents’/guardians’ participation was develop for research. The resulting data underwent descriptive inferential analysis, significance level set at 5%. Results: preschoolers’ mean age 69 months, that who answered 31 years. educational most either high or unfinished middle school. significant, positive relationship, between following seen: paying attention children when they spoke, calling their sound letters words, teaching/encouraging them write names.
